Alice & Olivia: Pre-Fall Collection 2012

Alice & Olivia is a contemporary women’s clothing brand designed by founder Stacey Bendet.

I have to admit that I am lusting after this collection. In fact I am bordering on obssession.

Here are a few pieces from the collection.

A classic shirt dress, an essential item for every woman’s wardrobe.

This collection has a true Parisian feel about it. Maybe it’s the image of the famed Café de Flore as the backdrop, rose petals strewn about a wrought iron table, or the model styled with a beret that gives it away.

Bendet stated pre-fall was about “a return to the pants,”  Paris in the spring with these stunning floral Pilazzo pants.

Trés Chiqué Mon Ami. Floating on a bed of spicy autumnal colours, this delicately feminine pleated skirt, JAdoré.

Stunning and Sexy with a little sparkle.

Congratulations Stacey Bendet for creating a wardrobe that dresses woman as they should be dressed.

This timeless collection deserves to be hung in my closet.

Join Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow and Sarah Jessica Parker among other Alice & Olivia celebrity wearers.

Style Icon Who; Redefined Women's Fashion-'Coco Chanel'

“I dont do fashion I am Fashion” Coco Chanel.

Coco Chanel 1929

Coco Chanel, redefined and changed the face of women’s fashion. From her first millinery shop, opened in 1912, to the 1920′s, Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel rose to become one of the premier fashion designers in Paris.

Coco Chanel gave the world the little black dress, Chanel No.5 perfume and a different way of looking at fashion and style.

There probably isn’t a woman I know that doesn’t have at least one little black dress in her wardrobe or closet.

Chanel No.5 is still one of the most sought after perfumes. It is considered the worlds most famous perfume. A perfume like nothing else. A woman’s perfume, with the scent of a woman.

“A women who doesn’t wear perfume has no future.” Coco Chanel

She liberated women from wearing stiff corsets towards casual, practical and tailored clothing. By the 1920′s she had set a fashion trend with her chemise and the ‘boy look’. She borrowed fabrics as well as attitudes normally reserved for menswear. Her famous boxy, collarless jacket with matching skirt is her signature suit admired by women world-wide. Her simple, elegant, classic and comfortable designs began to change the way 20th century women dressed.

Quoted as saying that “simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance” Chanel made popular a chic style for the modern woman. She also was the inspiration behind adding pearls and costume jewelry to her suits and dresses.

“Fashion fades, only style remains the same.” Coco Chanel.

Chanel’s designs were unique, simple and understated for a reason, by mimimalizing her signature creations, she could experiment with adding accessories, such as bracelets, ear rings necklaces and rings.

Chanel is also renowned for the quilted leather pattern seen on handbags, purses and jackets topped with the company logo.

She was still working when she died in 1971, at the age of 87!

The legend, the image, lives on today under direction of designer and couturier Karl Lagerfeld who took over the reigns in 1983. He is responsible for the creative direction of the single most successful fashion company in the world. Incorporated into the House of Chanel are are now France’s five premier houses of traditional fashion artistry which include Lesage (specialist embroiderer), Desrues (costume jeweller), Massaro (shoemaker), Maison Michel (milliner), Goossens (goldsmith),
Lemarie (feather specialist) and Guillet (floral accessory specialist).

From humble beginnings of Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel to the esteemed, luxurious and highly successful House of Chanel.
“A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.” Coco Chanel

In the film Coco before Chanel. Audrey Tautou played the young Coco. I loved this film!

Jeanne Lanvin founded her label in 1889, starting out as a milliner and later dressing Paris’s upper class. The company built a name with ultrafeminine clothing, marked by elaborate trimmings like embroidery and beading, as well as its popular fragrances.

In 2001 Alber Elbaz became artistic director at the Parisian house. He has been described as the modern romantic who found his perfect niche at Lanvin.
His signature designs for the label – pleated silk dresses, satin ribbon details and
costume jewellery – are now among the most sought-after in fashion.Today, it’s the oldest French fashion house in operation. And while it encompasses menswear, it is best loved among editors and celebs for exquisitely made womenswear, perfume and jewelry.

The Dior Collection at Paris Fashion Week

Paris Fashion Week. The Dior Ready-To-Wear Collection

The Dior team  headed up by Galliano’s former right-hand man Bill Gaytten for now, until the long awaited announcement of who will step into John Galliano‘s boots.

This was 50′s glamour; using textures of tweed, leather, lace, organza and chiffon. Leather - as seen in the red sleeveless tops and jackets over tailored trousers that stopped short of the ankle to show off chain-embellished heels. Organza skirts – very seductive.

Mosaic, patterns in neutral tones.

The eveningwear was almost nymph like with romantic undertones. Red
chiffon party dresses, vertical ruffles of light nude wool that skimmed the
body. Gowns of pale green, black and white or nude with lace under layers beneath multiple layers of chiffon, flowing and billowing down the catwalk.

It was said to be a very safe collection. It certainly did not resemble the Galliano flambouyant style, that was his trade mark. The nearest it came were the sheer gowns leaving little to the imagination.

A little ‘cheeky’ a rear view of Karlie Kloss as she closed the Dior show.

There was no standing ovation, no benches collapsing or no estatic clapping of approval from the front row A listers. But in my opinion the collection was femine and beautifully tailored.

So, we wait in anticipation the views of the paparazzi and fashion editors.
