Strictly Fashion 2012: The highlights

Strictlyfashion2012: the highlights
Strictly Come Dancing is always as much of a joy to watch for the fashion as it is for the spins and lifts and occasional acrobatics. Last year’s series was no exception, and while the menfolk continued to camp things up – especially judge Bruno Tonioli with his coloured tuxedos – the women brought the real glamour. Tess Daly is always a vision in her array of ball gowns and cocktail dresses, but ballerina Darcey Bussell, the new addition to the judging panel, certainly gave her a run for her money.
In October, Halloween week was a real treat for fashion lovers, as it showcased the timeless appeal of the little black dress. For the results show, Tess wore a figure-hugging bandage dress; knee-length, it featured a plunging neckline embellished with crystals.
Her co-presenter for results night, the ever-bubbly Claudia Winkleman, opted for a romantic, vintage-inspired look, wearing an extraordinary semi-sheer black dress with lace sleeves and a floaty, partly open skirt under which she wore black leggings. This was a dress very much in the style of Florence Welch, and Claudia teamed it with tousled rock chick hair, black eyeliner and patent, pointed court shoes. Darcey Bussell wore cobwebby black lace, although most of her dress was unfortunately obscured from view by the judges’ table.
On the dance floor, Fern Britton looked magical in a deep purple velvet dress with sparkly embellishments and a vampire-like cape at the back: perfect for spinning across the floor in the American Smooth with partner Artem Chigvintsev. This was the perfect contrast to the floaty white lace creation she wore in Hollywood week when she took on the role of Mary Poppins, and the perfect counterpoint to Victoria Pendleton’s spooky white wedding dress which she wore for her tango with Brendan Cole.
Leaderboard-topper Flavia Cacace wowed the audience and judges alike with her almost flawless tango with celebrity partner Louis Smith, but all fashionista eyes were also on her stunning gown. Her black and grey lace dress was studded with jewels and featured neon yellow trimmings to the skirt so that every flick of the leg revealed a flash of startling brightness. This perfect tango look was complemented with high-impact black liquid eyeliner, the friend of little black dresses everywhere…

Razzle Dazzle Em! – Accessorize for the Christmas Party Season

The Christmas party season has arrived and I have nothing to wear!

Oh Fairy Godmother, may I please have the Gucci Flapper Dress to go to the ball?

Could I Razzle Dazzle em with this gorgeous Flapper dress by Jigsaw?

http://youtu.be/y67hStSFMso

Maybe this year, I have to be more practical.

Plan A:

This year instead of investing in another party on christmas dress, why not reinvent your wardrobe favourites by dressing up your outfit with accessories. If you are handy with a needle and thread, a little black dress can be transformed by adding sequins, ribbon, embelishments around the hem, neck or sleeves of your dress.

PLAN B:

My recommendation would be …. to cheat.

The girlie in me is a sucker for a bit of glitter and statement jewelry pieces. There’s nothing like diamonds and pearls to make a ladyg feel like a million dollars.

Don’t panic, the same look can be achieved with faux diamonds. My dressing table draw is full of cosmetic jewelry, I just love bangles and beads. So go shopping or even borrowing to glam up your party dress or even top and pants.

I bought this Robert Rose Necklace Button Cluster Bib Macy’s $42, it just gorgeous. So versatile and worth every dollar (and so shiny!)

This fabulously dazzling piece of Jewelry I bought on my recent visit to the UK. By Julien McDonald for Debenhams – a snip at £30. I teamed this with a black dress I bought on sale from Loft at $25 and a fringed jacket from INC at approx $79.

All that glitters…….

Givenchy Necklace Glass Pearl + Crystal Drama Necklace $150

Haskell Necklace, Hermatite Tone Filigree Statement Necklace $42

Jones NY Gold Tone Crystal Snake collar Necklace $70

Jones of NY Tri Tone two row frontal necklace $55

Just a couple of my Arm Candy pieces, I have collected on my travels.

In the mood now to Razzle Dazzle em?

Style Icon Who; Redefined Women's Fashion-'Coco Chanel'

“I dont do fashion I am Fashion” Coco Chanel.

Coco Chanel 1929

Coco Chanel, redefined and changed the face of women’s fashion. From her first millinery shop, opened in 1912, to the 1920′s, Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel rose to become one of the premier fashion designers in Paris.

Coco Chanel gave the world the little black dress, Chanel No.5 perfume and a different way of looking at fashion and style.

There probably isn’t a woman I know that doesn’t have at least one little black dress in her wardrobe or closet.

Chanel No.5 is still one of the most sought after perfumes. It is considered the worlds most famous perfume. A perfume like nothing else. A woman’s perfume, with the scent of a woman.

“A women who doesn’t wear perfume has no future.” Coco Chanel

She liberated women from wearing stiff corsets towards casual, practical and tailored clothing. By the 1920′s she had set a fashion trend with her chemise and the ‘boy look’. She borrowed fabrics as well as attitudes normally reserved for menswear. Her famous boxy, collarless jacket with matching skirt is her signature suit admired by women world-wide. Her simple, elegant, classic and comfortable designs began to change the way 20th century women dressed.

Quoted as saying that “simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance” Chanel made popular a chic style for the modern woman. She also was the inspiration behind adding pearls and costume jewelry to her suits and dresses.

“Fashion fades, only style remains the same.” Coco Chanel.

Chanel’s designs were unique, simple and understated for a reason, by mimimalizing her signature creations, she could experiment with adding accessories, such as bracelets, ear rings necklaces and rings.

Chanel is also renowned for the quilted leather pattern seen on handbags, purses and jackets topped with the company logo.

She was still working when she died in 1971, at the age of 87!

The legend, the image, lives on today under direction of designer and couturier Karl Lagerfeld who took over the reigns in 1983. He is responsible for the creative direction of the single most successful fashion company in the world. Incorporated into the House of Chanel are are now France’s five premier houses of traditional fashion artistry which include Lesage (specialist embroiderer), Desrues (costume jeweller), Massaro (shoemaker), Maison Michel (milliner), Goossens (goldsmith),
Lemarie (feather specialist) and Guillet (floral accessory specialist).

From humble beginnings of Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel to the esteemed, luxurious and highly successful House of Chanel.
“A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.” Coco Chanel

In the film Coco before Chanel. Audrey Tautou played the young Coco. I loved this film!
