Golden Globes – Red Carpet Favourites

As we eagerly awaited the winners of various categories. Our eyes were distracted by the ‘Red Carpet.’

These are some of my favourites.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were the most glamerous couple of the night. Angelina dressed in a body-hugging white strapless gown with a flash of red at the bustline by Atelier Versace that matched perfectly her lips and handbag, and he in a classic, bow-tie tuxedo by Salvatore Ferragamo.

Madonna, wearing a dark green embroidered gown with cap sleeves by Reem Acra and a diamond-and-pearl cross by Neil Lane.

Emma Stone in Lanvin

Kate Winslet

Jessica Alba in Lavendar Gucci

Mila Kunis in Black Dior

So many beautiful breathtaking gowns and not forgetting the gentleman’s tuxedo’s!

What was your favourite of the night?

Designer Heaven; Jeffrey of Atlanta & NY

Yesterday, whilst I was out and about on Peachtree Rd in Buckhead, Atlanta. I decided to drive over to Phipps Plaza. I was looking for one store in particular recommended to me by my daughter.

I found ‘Jeffrey’ on the ground floor of Phipps Plaza adjacent to Saks of fifth Avenue and opposite the marvellous restaurant and bar, The Tavern.

Heralded for bringing serious, runway hot fashion to Atlanta and New York. The owner, Jeffrey Kalinsky, selects the most exciting pieces that fashion has to
offer while emphasizing service. The company defines service as warm, fun,
friendly, and educational for the customer. Each associate is professionally trained to be a personal shopper for his/ her client.

Jeffrey has outfitted the Buckhead elite in the likes of Prada, Gucci, Stella Mc Cartney,  Dsquared, Lanvin, Marni, Oscar De La Renta, Jason Wu and Michael Kors amongst others.
If it’s on the runway, look for it here. And unlike some boutiques, which are disarmingly spare, Jeffrey has plenty of inventory to admire.

The store was beautifully laid out. Designer clothing hanging magestically from free standing dress rails, like soldiers stood to attention and enticing you to touch, feel and try. Interspersed among the rails were glass showcase cabinets, that housed designer jewelry. Whether, your taste is ethnic, gold, silver or architectural, you will not be disappointed.

A glass fronted wardrobe was the home for evening purses, handbags and shoes, heels and claps glittered and sparkled.

Not to be outdone, the shoe and boot department was phenominal. From Louboutin to Chanel, Jimmy Choo, Lanvin and Manolo Blahnik.

My guide around the store was associate Wallace Fridy. He was exceptionally knowledgable with regards to the stock that Jeffrey held at present. Not just the clothing lines, but the extensive designer jewelry range too. He walked and talked me around the store, imparting his knowledge about the designs and the designers. I asked him about fashion events held this last year and future events planned - Wallace signed me up to be notified of any future events

While Jeffrey offers tons of luxury labels (at luxurious prices), the store is
undeniably ‘cooler’ than the similarly-stocked department stores. Is this I wonder   due to the instore DJ who spins everything from ‘80s pop to indie rock.

I need to ‘up’ my clothing allowance before my next visit! Thank you to Wallace for a fantastic tour of this formidable store. Jeffrey a name to remember and revisit.

1, 2, 3, 4 – Lanvin

Jeanne Lanvin founded her label in 1889, starting out as a milliner and later dressing Paris’s upper class. The company built a name with ultrafeminine clothing, marked by elaborate trimmings like embroidery and beading, as well as its popular fragrances.

In 2001 Alber Elbaz became artistic director at the Parisian house. He has been described as the modern romantic who found his perfect niche at Lanvin.
His signature designs for the label – pleated silk dresses, satin ribbon details and
costume jewellery – are now among the most sought-after in fashion.Today, it’s the oldest French fashion house in operation. And while it encompasses menswear, it is best loved among editors and celebs for exquisitely made womenswear, perfume and jewelry.

The video says it all.

"Paris Fashion Week": Weekend Collections: Gaultier, Lanvin and Loewe

Something for the weekend perhaps?

Signature Gaultier. You could not fail to associate this collection with anyone else. A collection of deconstructed suits and colourful corsets.

Each model carried her own number! In case anyone wished to vote I guess.

Sailored suited with ruched, turned up breeches. Perfect for Spring/Summer.

Pinstripe suiting worn with crisp, asymmetrical white shirts on the
one hand; and on the other, lingerie details and tattoo-print body stockings. The tattoo motif carried over into evening pieces with silk cord embroidered onto the nude tulle bodices of draped gowns, or down the arm of one-sleeved cocktail dresses.

Sleveless Trench over layered shirt bodice and shorts.

Corsetted evening wear, billowing down the catwalk.

Oo La La Cest Risque! The Finale a la Gaultier.

In contrast Lanvin:

Sheers, suits, minimalistic looks, figure hugging. High waisted pencil skirts, folds and pleats plus the power angled shoulders. Definitely designed for the woman in mind, a little sexy and sultry perhaps? My opinion for what its worth – A little devoid of inspiration and imagination? More safe than sassy?

This next collection I loved. by LOEWE:

Engineered prints on silk skirts and tops or cut out of leather pieces. Lizards, another of the artist’s visual signatures, also appeared as prints or beaded in black on gray suede. Bold and bright, chevrons and patterns.

But with the core of Loewe’s business being leather goods, the challenge with a Spring collection is always going to be how to make skins lighter. He was proud of the fact that the Loewe workshops had come up with a reversible nappa that was the lightest yet.

Paired with the vintage-looking platform sandals, there was a vampish edge to the Loewe woman this season.

Watch out for the big guns – Chloe, Hermes, Stella Mc Cartney, YSL! all had collections today.  Tomorrow Chanel, Valentino and Alexander McQueen among others. Then as Paris draws to a close we still have Louis Vitton, Miu Miu and Ellie Saab on the final day.
