Hazy Hawaiian Holidays: A Dream Vacation

A few weeks ago my husband and I set off for the island of OAHU for our summer vacation. We were also going to meet our friends from the UK later in the week.

Oahu is a 9 hour flight from Hartsfield Jackson Airport Atlanta.

The hotel was set on Waikiki Beach, surrounded by Palm trees. Tiki Torches set out along the beach walkway and hotel gardens.

A stroll along the beach as the sun was setting over the ocean, was I dreaming? Stunning white sands and frothy surf.

Most of the beach hotels had a catarmaran excursion for a few dollars, whether daytime or to watch the sunset over the ocean; complete with cocktails! Of course we had to try it out.

A place to visit is Pearl Harbour, named for the pearl oysters once harvested there, is the largest natural harbor in Hawaii.
The devastating aerial attack on Pearl Harbor resulted in 2,390 dead and hundreds wounded, and drove the United States into World War II.

At 8:06 a.m. on December 7th, 1941, the USS Arizona was hit by a 1,760-pound armour-piercing bomb, which ignited its forward ammunition magazine. The catastrophic explosion that resulted sank this massive battleship in nine
minutes, killing 1,177 crewmen

We took a shuttle over to the USS Arizona Memorial, a floating memorial built over the sunken hull of the Battleship USS Arizona, the final resting place for many of the ship’s crew.

Next we ventured onboard the USS Bowfin, also known as the “Pearl Harbor Avenger,” for a panoramic view of the harbor.
Going down below decks into the body of the submarine touring the torpedo room, engine room, sleeping quarters and eating area. Have you ever tried trying to get into a bunk on a submarine, my friend and I did!!!

To finish off our holiday a Polynesian Night out where we were entertained by ‘hula hula’ dancers and even the famous Haka was performed, with yet more cocktails.

We are already into fall and not long before the Christmas festivities. This year seems to have flown! Right now we have our Son and Daughter-in-law from the UK visiting us, hence why I have been so quiet with posts. I will tell you more about their trip and the  places we have visited. But I wanted to share with you our house renovation project; as once again the paintbrushes have been busy prior to our vacation to Hawaii (more pics soon I promise) and our guests arriving.

When we bought our home – a foreclosure property, we tore out the upstairs master bathroom and guest bathroom. These are the results.

Let's try Zumba Fitness

After our vacation in Hawaii and too many delicious cocktails. It’s time to head back to the gym for a little punishment to loose those couple of pounds I have put on. The cocktails were worth it though!

Cocktails please

I have thought about trying ZUMBA but have not been brave enough! The real reason is that I lack co-ordination. My brain sends messages to my legs and feet, but somewhere along the chain, my legs and feet dont get it!, resulting in legs and feet becoming tangled up! As the book title states “Feel the Fear and do it Anyway”.

What is ZUMBA? It is a combination of a few movements that involves dance and areobics. ZUMBA also incorporates hip-hop, samba, salsa, merengue, mambomartial
arts
, and some Bollywood and belly dance moves. Squats and lunges.

Definitely going to ache in the morning!

So off to my local LA FITNESS gym not knowing what to expect.

I was realtively early but the ZUMBA Fitness Instructor was already there along with quite a few enthusiastic ladies waiting to shake their booty. I thought for a minute I had the wrong class at first. She started by going through some essential moves with her ‘belly dancing belt’ shimmying as she moved. She certainly had the moves, not only that but she was so exuberant and very flexible!

As a novice and not to embarrass myself I joined the class towards the rear – literally. Warm up was quite ok and then on to the Zumba moves.

I have to say I am now a convert. ZUMBA is energetic, it’s so much fun and I am now hooked. So much so I am thinking of going again this week. That will mean pilates yesterday, ZUMBA today and if I can get out of bed in the morning – body works with abs (this class is mighty cruel but again brilliant). Who said No pain no gain?

My recommendation: Get fit and join in ZUMBA fitness, it doesn’ matter if you are a novice like me. Go and laugh and enjoy.

stretching out

Destination Honolulu.

Aloha – Breath of Life

A view of the bay from the Sheraton – Waikiki

Hawaiian evenings, watching the sunset over the ocean (Kai). A giant orange glow in the evening skyline.

Evening walks on the beach. The waves lapping around my ankles. Dusk descending.

Sat in a cabana, tiki torches on fire, sipping chilled wine in a cabana, music playing, a soft breeze. Just so perfect!

Entertainment Hawaiian style.

Playing with Fire

Waikiki – Oahu

Vacation and Oahu from what I have seen so far is spectacular.

Oahu

The views from our hotel room balcony of the Pacific Ocean are amazing. The colours deep blue, azure, aqua and greens. It is breath taking.

Our suite is perfect and spacious.

Whoops left the handbag in the shot!

The shops on the way here…..well lets just say Chanel, Prada, Bottega Venetta, and so much more Oh dear! This could be expensive.

Hubby getting organised!
