How to Dress for New Years Eve

Does it all depend on what your plans are for New Years Eve?

Just because you havent received a royal invite doesn’t excuse you from not making the effort to get off the couch! Cinderella shall go to the ball.

Get out that little black dress – you must have one in your wardrobe?

First make a list of a few treats for New Years Eve. Whether, you have a date with your beau, friends or family – hopefully not on your own. However, If you are going solo this New Years Eve, you can still celebrate with style.

Set off the evening by getting into the mood, go and get ready, starting with a long bubble bath or radiant shower, and then treat yourself to…..

  • A manicure and a pedicure
  • A bottle of bubbly – Prosecco or Champagne
  • Dark chocolate – have you tried Lindt with sea salt?

Dress yourself in…

  • Your favourite underwear
  • That special perfume
  • A simple piece of jewelry. Pearls pehaps?

And so to dressing for the evening with style of course. Every woman should have that one dress in her wardrobe – no I don’t mean a wedding dress. More importantly a dress for all occasions. Whether, it is a LBD, LRD, or the new colour for 2013 – allegedly Green! It doesn’t have to be expensive. The secret is to make it look like you really made the effort. It’s how you wear the outfit not how the outfit wears you.

Out and about yesterday I was looking for a couple of items for my vacation wardrobe. Basic items such as Tee shirts, a loose cardigan and maybe another pair of shorts.

Kohl’s is not normally a store that I shop at, but I decided to have a look and see what they had in store from the Simply Vera Vera Wang collection.

The bonus right now is the word SALE

I managed to snag this Chiffon Overlay Open-Front Vest for $33.60. Original price $48

Perfect with a maxi or jeans, elegant, chic and sophisticated.

 

I also managed to snaffle a white v necked tee-shirt – now sold out for around $24! Of course this prompted me to have a look online when I settled back at home with a glass of chilled vino.

Summertime: Beachwear Inspiration.

In the Northern Hemisphere summer begins– astronomically/technically– at the moment  of the summer solstice, June 21. The solstice is when the sun reaches its  highest altitude in the north, the Tropic of Cancer

In other words, time to think about summer holidays & dressing for the beach. I read somewhere that women would rather go to the dentist than go swimwear shopping. Personally I have no aversion to going to my dentist. Therefore, this is an easy decision to make for me – Dentist wins anytime.

Why is that?

1. Body shape and body image. 2. The fit and style of swimwear, I am somewhat ample in the breast department but small on the hips & 5′ 2″ in height.  3. I am also 50+ in the age department, but could still look reasonably good in a bikini, although I am moving more to considering the one piece swimsuit or Tankini.

Here are a few items purchased over the last couple of years. The tankini fits the best of all but…. so boring!

Complete with matching cover-up dress – that makes me feel twice my age!

A plethora of beachwear. These are the best of the bunch in my closet.

I always seem to buy the wrong thing and end up with too small a bikini top that I am forever adjusting, to make sure it’s still in place. One piece swimsuits are often too long in the body for my frame. Also, do you find that trying on beachwear in the store is so uncomfortable? Whether, it’s the lighting or the mirrors I don’t know. That’s why I am looking online. Returning items can be a pain, but at least you are in the comfort of your own home and not competing with a bunch of androgynous teenagers that frankly could wear anything!  Did you detect a hint of the green-eyed monster making an appearance there?.

I came across the ModCloth site accidentally as is usually the case! I have seen the name branded about in a variety of places and sites, so I went further to explore. What did I find? A retro clothing emporium, actually, It’s more than that, all inclusive from kitchen to dressing table to closet. A veritable ‘Aladdin’s Cave’ of vintage finds and discovery.

I decided to test it out. I ordered a much-needed diary/planner. As a Community Midwife in a former life, my diary was my companion, my aide memoire, my must have accessory. Therefore, I ordered the ”Can’t Heart-ly Wait Planner” $25.99 from ModCloth to help with trying to organise my day to day life!

I ordered it on the 2nd April, it arrived on the April 6th via Fed Ex Savvy Saver! It is just as described, practical and cute.

I was impressed by the speed from ordering to delivery. I have ordered goods from other companies and waited 3 weeks or more to receive my order!

The more I explored ModCloth, the more I felt a bit like Alice in Wonderland, going deeper and deeper into the cavernous rabbit hole of uniquely different products.

Modcloth is built on a foundation of love for vintage and retro clothing. It is described on the website as an online clothing, accessories, and decor retailer that aims to provide a fun and engaging shopping atmosphere for its customers.

So far so good as the saying goes.

Next I need to test out their clothing range. These dresses are on my wish list.

I adore how they have named each individual item with its own quirky name. How imaginative is that?
