Origami Owl Jewelry

Origami Owl Jewelry

I first came across Origami Owl at a Bridal Event in February. I was intrigued when visiting the vendors booth to find something so different. A simple but stylish concept.

The tag line being “You tell stories with words, we tell stories with jewelry”

This is the story of Bella, who had the vision of creating something she could sell to pay for her first car. Hence the inception of Origami Owl.

The Mission Statement is:- “To be a force for good; to love, inspire and motivate women of all ages to reach their dreams. Empower them to make a difference in the lives of others.”

Every piece of jewelry has been designed with something personal and specific in mind. Symbolic, sentimental, a childhood memory perhaps, a reminder of someone or something special. You create and build your unique piece of jewelry using living lockets, chains, dangles and charms. Every living locket has a personal story or secret to tell.

This is my living locket so far, I intend to add a couple more charms at least.

A long silver chain, with a dangle that states “Life is a gift” on the other side of the dangle is a tree, which is also the Arbonne symbol – “The Tree of Life”. My silver locket and  ‘believe’ plate were a gift from my Arbonne sponsor. We all wore our Origami Owl personal lockets at Arbonne GTC in Las Vegas recently. The rose gold plate stamped ’love’ my initial G, the high heel shoe and a the hope symbol (pink) were my choices. Why did I choose these? This is part of my own personal story.

  • Never stop believing in yourself, your ability and in others.
  • G is self-explanatory (me).
  • High heels because you know I have a shoe fetish
  • Love because I have so much to give. My heart will always be with my husband, daughter and son.
  • Hope because, not only was in my maiden name, but because we must never give up hope.

Do you have a story to tell with Origami Owl?

This is such a charming piece of jewelry.

The Maxi Skirt – A Wardrobe Essential

The Maxi Skirt - A Wardrobe Essential

While out and about the a couple of weeks ago, I found myself in Macy’s (obviously the shopping radar was switched on).

I was hoping to find a couple of items to add to my summer wardrobe. I either fancied a pair of knee-length shorts, cropped trousers or a maxi skirt.

I remembered buying a couple of maxi skirts a few years ago and literally lived in them. In fact my first date with my husband I wore a maxi skirt, he still remembers what it looked like too. Maybe my fashion obsession is rubbing off on him?

Ralph Lauren have some peasant/boho chic maxi skirts on their rails at the moment. I was drawn to this particular one.

DSC01551

A bold paisley design, this tiered maxi skirt has so much colour. Pair with a shirt, a tee or a gypsy styled off the shoulder blouse ( I couldn’t find one of these anywhere).

Both Tee Shirts also by Ralph Lauren. Plaited leather belt designed by my daughter Jemma 10 years ago while working in accessories at Ted Baker.

Et Voila a strapless dress. Now that’s versatile and value for money. Add a belt and a little jewelry, another outfit.

Check out Macy’s sale at present.

Put Your Best Feet Forward – Summer Sandals

Put Your Best Feet Forward – Summer Sandals

I am not sure it is wise to tempt fate after the weekend weather. The sky was so dark and menacing, it could have been night not day. Then the storms began – torrential rain, clapping thunder  crashing lightning, rivers of water streaming down the garden and driveway. I wasn’t quick enough the first time as I watched my outdoor patio cushions getting a soaking. However, being a glass half full person, I know the sun will stop hiding so I can wear my Summer Sandals.

Before our recent trip to Las Vegas. I decided to look for a pair of low heeled comfortable sandals plus a new pair of flip-flop style sandals.

Now I love a high heel, but more and more lately I have been drawn to look for a low heeled wedge. Therefore, my quest began to find a sandal that I could actually get some wear out of and not another closet filler.

Quite surprisingly I didn’t have to roam too far to find what I was looking for. I had already dismissed the shoe departments in a couple of department stores as being boringly bland, lacking style or too old, too young too colourful, too high.

I ventured into DSW

This was my brief, low heeled preferably a wedge, a neutral colour or maybe navy blue, not too strappy, an everyday, can wear, with multiple outfits sandal.

A cute little number popped up from Nine West.

I love the buckle detail on these Summer Sandals from Aldo. So cute.

Of course just in case a beach holiday is on the horizon. I just had to have a pair of Havaianas. These I picked up at the airport coming back from Las Vegas.

Kitchen Update. Choosing A Backsplash

Kitchen Update. Choosing A Backsplash

The saga continues, its like the Doomsday Book, it goes on and on.

We are making ‘slow’ progress. We started this project last year, exactly one year ago, when we demolished the existing kitchen cabinets and literally tore up the impractical slate floor tiles.

Before picture

Kitchen

We are pleased with our choices so far. Obviously, the kitchen is the hub of the house and therefore, requires careful planning. It is probably the most expensive room in the house to remodel or renovate. Most of us have a limited budget to spend on a new kitchen including the appliances.

Phase 1. The Aristokraft Winstead Maple base units with ‘Uba Tuba’ granite countertop. All appliances by Bosch.

DSC00808

Phase 2: Wall cabinets. We have two opaque glass cabinets with slow close doors.

DSC01525

DSC01526

Planning a kitchen is not just about choosing the right cabinets, countertops and appliances, although these are the basis of your kitchen. There are also other factors to consider:

  • The size and shape of the kitchen, doorways and access
  • Is this a family kitchen? Do you install a breakfast area such as an island.
  • What appliances are used the most?
  • Is this a cooks kitchen?
  • What is the look you are wanting to achieve?
  • Functionality
  • The budget

Don’t forget to factor in additional expenses for electrics and plumbing. If you are trying to complete as much work as possible to save money, know your limits, mistakes can be costly.

Phase 3. Choosing the Backsplash.

As hubby was calling at Home Depot anyway – weed killer for our jungle of a back garden. I gave my husband a brief on what I had in mind for our splash-back and asked him to choose some samples.

These are the contenders:

DSC01522

I do like this stone mini subway tile, but think it may be too bland and too intricate & fiddly to install.

DSC01518

Cool Metallics, I quite liked this sample however, it may be a little too garish. We have to live with whatever we choose for a long time.

DSC01520

I love the colours in this sample, but wonder whether tiling two backsplash areas maybe a little too dark?

DSC01521

The colours in this sample complement the décor as well as the maple cabinets, countertops and floor tiles.

My favourite two samples are 3 & 4. It’s decision time. Which one did we choose?

Kitchen Update. Choosing A Backsplash

Which Kitchen Backsplash sample would you choose?

Next - We are in the process of designing our kitchen island. The kitchen will then be complete & I will be a very happy Ladyg.
