Are You Coming Out To Play? Playsuits, Rompers & Culottes
Playsuits? Rompers? Culottes?
Once upon a time. Ladyg possessed a navy blue & white ’culotte dress,’ it was her favourite and the pride of her closet. What happened to it, I can not remember. But I am on the search for a replacement. However, being a woman of mature years, I have in mind something age appropriate.
I am asking myself what is the difference between culottes the playsuit and the romper? Do you know the answer? I thought that originally culottes hid the fact that they had divided legs so there was more material in the garment. However, Wikipedia gives a different historical version.
I remember my grandma cutting out material from Butterick and Simplicity patterns for my school dresses when I was “knee-high to a grasshopper.”
Maybe I should try these Butterick patterns. I love the styles?
This gorgeous frilled black and white patterned dress is still available on Etsy. But I am sure it won’t be there long. If you are handy with needle and thread, have a trip down memory lane and order a vintage paper pattern as shown above at www.etsy.com
This dress is so cute. Seersucker is the summer fabric of the moment, so cool and light. Perfect for a summer day.
Pretty floral culotte sundress, available in other colourways
Todays version of the Culotte, now called Romper or Playsuit.

I think this is my favourite, loving the bloomer style!
I am hungering after a pair of culottes or a culotte dress? I think I feel a shopping expedition coming on. I prefer the name ‘culotte’ it sounds so much more stylish don’t you think?, as opposed to ‘Playsuit’ or ‘Romper,’ which sounds like something from “50 Shades of Grey.”
Do you own a playsuit, romper or culottes?
Is there an appropriate age when you shouldn’t wear a playsuit, romper or culottes?
